The difference is related to how GUI scaling is handled in our newer products. Older D16 plugins (such as Drumazon 2 and Nepheton 2) provide two separate scaling settings under the Options menu:
The System Scale setting must be configured to match the operating system's display scaling (for example, 200% on most Retina displays, or the Display Scale setting configured in Windows 11). Once configured correctly, the Size setting can be adjusted independently to select the preferred window size. If the System Scale setting does not match the display's actual DPI scaling, the interface will appear blurry.
FAQ: GUI looking blurry when resizing
PunchBox 2 uses a newer scaling system that automatically detects the display's DPI scaling on both Windows and macOS. As a result, the separate System Scale option is no longer necessary. Only the Size setting is exposed to the user, while the equivalent of System Scale is handled automatically in the background. This simplifies the configuration process and ensures that the interface is rendered sharply without requiring manual DPI adjustments.
Because of this architectural difference, the default window size of PunchBox 2 may not match that of older D16 plugins, even when both are using their default settings.
If an older plugin appears blurry, it is usually an indication that the System Scale setting does not match the display's actual DPI scaling. For example, on most Retina displays the System Scale should be set to 200%. An incorrect setting may result in a blurred interface and make direct size comparisons with PunchBox 2 misleading.
If PunchBox 2 still appears too small after increasing the Size setting to 200%, this is not indicative of a scaling bug. PunchBox 2 is a particularly feature-rich instrument with a significantly denser interface than our drum machine plugins, so even at the same window size, individual controls occupy less screen space and may therefore appear smaller.
